Junior Golf Victoria (JGV) Players Dominate BC Championships

With JGV alumnus Tristan Mandur taking the Men’s Title and JGV member William (Willie) Bishop capturing the Junior Boy’s Championship, JGV players swept the titles up for grabs at the provincial Championships wrapping up yesterday at Kelowna’s Okanagan Golf Club (Leaderboard).

In all three rounds Willie bounced back from early bogies. And Tristan birdied the last hole to win by one stroke.
7 JGV members or alumni finished in the top 11 in the Men’s event, and 6 members finished in the top 11 of the Boy’s event.

Willie Bishop has the distinction of being the first graduate of the Little Vikes program to win a provincial title. There will be more. In the 12 years since JGV started as the Vikes Junior Tour its players have now won 5 BC Boy’s titles, 2 BC Girls and 1 National Girls title, and 4 BC Men’s Amateur titles.

While we are happy for all our players when they play well and don’t know of any other junior program that has produced the same number of quality players what makes us proud is how you all conduct yourselves wherever and however you play.
Well done all!!!

(Additional Note: After enduring 7 hour plus rounds I trust you all were reflecting fondly our 4 pace of play rules which you will all be quizzed on when we meet on the first tee on the other side of these difficult times.)

(Another Additional Note: Shu Yamamoto shot an even par 72 in the second round.)
